From the land to the water to the sky, the sports possibilities on the Outer Bank are virtually infinite. If you like a good workout – and want to see some great Outer Banks scenery – try rollerblading, hiking up Jockey’s Ridge, horseback riding, tennis or bike riding. Or, if you’d rather take it easy, try a tour of the northernmost beaches where you might catch a glimpse of one of our infamous wild horses. Itching to get wet? The Outer Banks is all about water and water sports are everywhere – including surfing, sailing, kayaking, kiteboarding, jet skiing, or scuba diving. And since you’ve come to the birthplace of flight, it’s only natural that we have a plethora of air sports as well. Parasailing, hang gliding and airplane tours…each will give you a view of our beautiful islands like you’ve never seen before! Not a pro? Don’t worry, lessons for most of these activities are usually available (and affordable!) for both adults and children.

Outer Banks Community Sailing NC Maritime Museum on Roanoke Island - Outer Banks Community Sailing Program PO Box 907, 104 Fernando Street Manteo, NC 27954 (252) 475-1750 Outer Banks Community Sailing The Outer Banks Community Sailing Program, located at the boat shop on the Manteo Waterfront, is an "on the water program" of The North Carolina Maritime Museum on Roanoke Island. The youth program started in 2000 to make the adventure of sailing available to youth in Dare County. Sailing helps instill teamwork, concentration, self confidence, and appreciation for nature, all wrapped up in a fun and exciting package. The program teaches youth ages 8 and older basic, intermediate and advanced sailing skills. Adult programs also are available. All instruction is based on US Sailing guidelines and taught by US Sailing-certified coaches/instructors. US Sailing is the governing body of the sport of sailing in the United Sates. Their coaches are experienced sailors and instructors with years of sailing experience in various boats. Their experience includes racing at the college and club levels.
